How To Use GIA’s New Digital Reports
It’s official: many of our newest diamonds in stock are now accompanied by GIA digital reports! With this recent development, we’ve put together a tutorial on accessing them for you and your customers.
Scene: You purchase a GIA certified stone and instead of the usual printed Diamond Dossier, you’re presented with a label sized version. It contains some of the certification information and a QR code- but where’s the rest of the information?
Option 1: Using the GIA App
That’s where their new app comes in- available on the App store (Apple) and Google Play (Samsung). It allows users to verify, save, and organize GIA digital reports & much more!
- Step 1: Open the GIA App
- Step 2: Click on “Reports”
- Step 3: Choose to either manually enter the report number when prompted (which will bring up the full report), or click “scan QR” code.
- Step 4: Ensure that the QR code is centred in the camera, and the full report will appear.
- Step 5: Once the report appears, you’ll have the options to: save it within the app, save it to PDF, enlarge the QR code, or share it externally.
Option 2: Using the GIA Website
If you’re using a desktop or laptop, this may be the best option for you.
- Step 1: Visit their website’s Report Check page here.
- Step 2: Look up a report by manually entering the report number when prompted, which will bring up the full report.
- Step 3: Once the report appears, you’ll have the options to: download the report PDF or get the report access card (with the QR code).
As of now, the GIA has only digitalized their Diamond Dossiers. However, it is their goal to ensure that all reports are digital by 2025. In doing this, they estimate that they’ll save 20 tons of paper and 18.5 tons of plastic on an annual basis! And aside from the obvious sustainability benefits, the GIA App makes it easy to access and store all of your diamond reports with the click of a button.
