Saul Weissbart started his career as a diamond polisher at the age of 14, when he arrived in Hatton Garden in the 1940s. He gradually began supplying diamonds to his customers in the 1950s and built a highly respected reputation in the trade.
Saul was a life-long member of the London Diamond Bourse. Furthermore, he served on the Board for over two decades in a variety of roles, helping to shape the policy of London’s diamond trade. He was well-known for his deadpan sense of humour, and people still come into the office quoting his jokes!
In 2012, Saul was interviewed by Rachel Lichtenstein for her book, Diamond Street: The Hidden World of Hatton Garden, a fascinating account of London’s diamond district. She devoted an entire chapter to him and his memoirs.
